Objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. identify the setting, participants and the topic of a conversation about hobbies. (Cognition) 2. identify specific information by scanning a conversation about hobbies(Skills – reading & listening) 3. use hobby - related words in context (Cognition) 4. conduct a survey about their hobbies (Language competence: communication - Listening and speaking) 5. show their positive attitude toward good hobbies. (Attribute) B. Language Focus Key terms/ vocabulary: building dollhouse; riding a horse; collecting teddy bears, collecting coins; making models; gardening Grammatical structures: Do you like + V_ing? C. LEARNING EXPERIENCE Activity 1: Listening & Reading - Write the unit title My Hobbies on the board. - Ask students to guess what they are going to learn in this unit. - Elicit the answers from students. Encourage them to talk about their hobbies. - Have students look at the situation picture on page 8 & 9 in the textbook - Tieng Anh 7. - Ask them the following questions about the picture and confirm the correct answers. 1. Who are the children? They’re Ann and Trang 2. Who is Ann? She’s Trang’ friend 3. Where are they? at Trang’s house) 4. What are they talking about? They’re talking about dollhouse making and horse riding. - Play the recording twice for students to listen and read along. - Have students underline the words that are related to the topic of the unit while they are listening and reading.
3. - Call on some groups of students to read the conversation aloud. - Ask students what exactly Ann and Trang are talking about. - Elicit students’ answers and give constructive feedback. Activity 2: Reading Exercise 2: Read the conversation again and write T (True) or F (False). - Ask students to read the statements carefully, underline the key words, locate the information, write True or False. - Have students compare their answers with their partners. - Elicit students’ answers and give constructive feedback. F Activity 3: Vocabulary Exercise 3: Write the words and phrases from the box under the correct pictures. - Have students work individually to write the words and phrases from the box under the correct pictures. - Have them compare their answers with a partner. Then ask for Ss' answers. Have Ss listen to the recording, check their answers and repeat the words/phrases. Write the hobbies from 3 in the suitable columns. - Have Students work in pairs and complete the table. - Confirm the correct answer - Have Ss add more words to the table. Suggested answer: doing things: horse riding, gardening (others: travelling, skiing, doing yoga, etc.) making things: making models, building dollhouses (others: painting, making pottery, etc.) collecting things: collecting coins, collecting teddy bears (others: collecting toys, collecting books, etc.) Activity 4: Speaking - Give students 2-4 minutes to complete the table. - Ask students to work in groups of 4 and ask their classmates to complete the table, using the question “Do you like ?”. The student who completes the table first wins. He/ She reads aloud the names they have.

What did you learn from the lesson today? (Identify the setting, participants and the topic of the conversation. Identify the specific information of the conversation; Use the words in context; Do a survey about their hobbies.) 2. What are the core values of the lesson? (Show their positive attitude toward good hobbies) - Remind students to do exercises in the workbook and to prepare for the next lesson (A Close Look 1 on page 10).
